| I think it was Kipling who said something wise about how we would all be much better people if "we could see ourselves as others see us". It may have been Burns - it certainly wasn't a management guru. Yet for any business, however big or small, it's a vital perspective to take. I was prompted to muse on this when I took a call from one of my subscribers, Michael Stead of www.msafsa.com . Michael is a consultant and he wanted to chat about improving his website. He's made a pretty good fist of starting the site with plenty of content and some basic optimisation. But he wasn't getting much traffic and very few leads. He called while I was munching a late Friday lunchtime bacon sarnie - it's important for us 'homies' to treat ourselves now and again - so I said I'd look at it and call him back. My appetitie sated, we talked for about ten minutes covering issues like how useful testimonials would be, how sites for people businesses should show the people, keyword driven domain names, the need to build inbound links and the difference strong benefit driven headlines can make. In all modesty, I think Michael found my perspective useful - I hope so. All of which leads me to a request. If you get five minutes, perhaps on a late Friday lunchtime, would you have a look at my main site www.incisecomms.co.uk and let me know what you think? I'll happily return the compliment if you do. A NEW VENTURE Now that I've been advising companies on how to get better value from the internet for two years, it's high time I did it myself. I've been using the techniques in Corey Rudl's Internet Marketing Course to identify unfulfilled niches on the net. I'm also being mentored by Corey, which is a huge help. Over Christmas I found a niche which looks both interesting and potentially lucrative. I can't reveal exactly what it is yet but will keep you posted on my progress. I'm sure I've got lots of lessons to learn as I develop the e-book, salesletter website, optimisation and pay-per-click campaign. I'm certain to make lots of mistakes but that's how you learn. As another wise man said,'success is going from failure to failure with increased enthusiasm'.
